Why X-rays Don't Cut It In Front of A Jury

Alternative Court Exhibits MAXIMIZE Recovery for Clients

Skeletons In The Closet

When a new client settled into his chair in my office the other day, he looked around and said “You are really into skulls and bones aren’t you?” He was referring to the numerous full size reproductions of human skeletons, skulls and other body parts I have in my office. I assured the client that “no”, I am not “into them”, but that I have the models made as trial exhibits on injury cases.

What exactly do the models show and why are they important to a client’s case? Each model is a precise reproduction of a particular client’s injuries he/she has received, from broken bones to lost teeth to nerve injuries and brain injuries. The models have orthopedic hardware installed just as the client did in real life.

Most injury attorneys use x-ray films in court to detail their client's injuries to a jury, but my office does not. Instead, we use our reproductive models as exhibits. They are vastly more effective in demonstrating to a jury the injuries sustained, as opposed to x-rays, because the models bring home the physical trauma suffered by the client. You can actually see the jurors thinking “Wow, that had to really hurt.” as if it were written on their faces.

The picture above is a reproduction of the skull of a seventeen year old client injured in a horrible car accident. Her case will go to trial in Rochester later this year. To the best of my knowledge, Joe Moran and I are the only attorneys in upstate, central and western New York to use models in lieu of x-rays.
