Anytime you make a claim for injuries received in a car, truck, or auto accident against the insurer of a vehicle , the insurance company has the right to have you examined by their own doctor.  This is because the insurance company wants to determine if the injuries you received were in fact caused by the accident, and to make sure you are not faking it.      Having been an injury attorney practicing in Livingston and Monroe Counties for nearly eighteen years, I have seen firsthand the problems that arise in auto accident cases. Unfortunatelymany people in our society are scam artists and what to get something for nothing, even if it means lying and cheating and trying to defraud the insurance company.  These cheats make it harder for people who have legitimate claims to get the medical care and compensation they are entitled to.      An unforunate side effect of the cheats trying to scam the system is that insurance companies sometimes employ similar tactics to avoid paying legitimate claims.  They do this by sometimes hiring quack doctors who minimize the severity of the person's injuries, and even deny claims outright for no good reason.      What to do?  First, don't be a cheat.  Second, if you have received a real, significant injury in an auto accident, call a competent injury attorney immediately to protect your rights.  Third, if the injuries you have received are minor and even though someone else may be at fault, get better, get over it, and get on with your life.

Q:   Why does the doctor for the insurance company get to examine me after I was injured in a car accident?
